Vaping helps 18,000 extra people quit in 2015
E-cigarettes go hand in hand with controversy, often fuelled by uninformed speculation, but actual definitive research is few and far between. This can make the available information for would-be vapers at best confusing, but at worst contradictory.
However, more and more research is slowly providing a clear picture of how the vaping industry is changing the face of smoking, and the verdict is extremely positive.
As e-cigarettes continue to find firm ground within the smoking community, its becoming clear that more and more people are successfully quitting with their help.
"...the increase in e-cigarette use has been associated with an increase in success of quit attempts." (Prof Robert West, UCL)
While vaping hasn't increased the numbers of people trying to quit by any drastic amount, it is playing a significant role in ensuring more people successfully give up conventional smoking for good.
Interestingly, the same study has discovered that with every 1% rise in people successfully quitting smoking there was an identical 1% increase in the number of smokers now using vaping devices.
According to Dr Britton, the director of the UK centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies at the University of Nottingham, the rate of which smoking cessation was increasing indicates that something is going very right indeed.
"This significant year-on-year fall indicates that something in UK tobacco control policy is working, and successful quitting through substitution with e-cigarettes is one likely major contributor."
So what does this mean for the vaping industry? With the combined research from the NHS and BMJ, vaping now has a healthy collection of rock solid evidence that highlights how vital vaping has become for those looking to quit.
This is yet another positive bump for the vaping industry, which is already seeing a huge number of new customers making the choice to drop smoking and start vaping.
Hooray for objective scientific surveys!
