Where there's smoke there's fire: Vaping cuts fire death risks
Vaping helps you to reduce risk in numerous areas, but not many would have thought about how using e-cigarettes can put a stop to fire risks.
As it turns out, that's exactly the case!
In a report from the London Fire Brigade Chief Dan Daly, he pointed out that electronic cigarettes hold 'fewer fire risks' for smokers.
This result has come to light after the LBF revealed that the number of smokers losing their lives to fire has more than doubled in the last year.
In 2016, 21 people died to smoking-related fires, with over 1000 fires starting as a result of cigarettes. Injury totals were at 108, with most fires beginning in the bedroom.
In 2016 there were no recorded deaths or injuries from vaping, with only four recorded fires in the capital.
Mr Daly explained:
"...if you must smoke, vaping holds fewer fire risks than cigarettes as butts, ash and matches are often carelessly discarded which leads to fires."
“Quitting smoking is not only good for your health but also makes a devastating fire in your home less likely.”
The LFB elaborated that elderly smokers have an enhanced risk of dying in a smoking-related fire, often as a result of underlying illness. Fires can start as a result of a dropped cigarette or poorly extinguished ember remnants in a precariously placed ashtray.
If you want to reduce your risks of fire, you can start vaping or request a safety visit from the LFB. Either way, it can't hurt.
