New research supports claims that vaping can help you quit smoking
New research from the University of Leuven in Belgium published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, flies in the face of previous reports by suggesting that vaping evangelists may well be right after all – e-cigarettes can be a legitimate aid for those looking to quit smoking and stop their tobacco habit. The results of the study were astounding – and a huge success for those who have quit as a result of being introduced to the benefits of e-cigarettes.
Forty-eight smoking volunteers, none of whom had any intention of quitting, with an average age of 43 who smoked an average of 20 cigarettes a day, spent eight months being closely monitored by researchers. They were split into three groups, two were given e-cigarettes and ordinary cigarettes to smoke as they wished throughout, and one, the control group, was only given ordinary cigarettes for the first two months then given the choice of e-cigarettes after that.
The results were startling.
- 2 months in – After the lab tests of the first 2 months, 34% of the e-cig group volunteers has stopped smoking tobacco cigarettes with no quitters at all in the control group.
- 5 months in – Things are looking very different now that the control group have been introduced to e-cigarettes: 37% of the volunteers from the initial e-cig groups are now tobacco free and 38% of the control group are also.
- 8 months in – It is inevitable that some who quit slip back into old habits and by the end of the 8-month experiment, 6 months of which left participants to their own devices, 19% of the original e-cig group were tobacco cigarette free, as were 25% of the control group.
Incredible success rates, only supported still further by the observations that participants’ cravings were adequately met by e-cigarettes and, taking all the volunteers into account, the number of cigarettes they smoked by the end of the study had been cut by 60%. The only conclusion anyone can gather from this is that vaping is far more successful at helping people to leave their tobacco habits behind them than it has ever been given credit for.
So, when willpower alone doesn’t cut it, come and talk to us about how e-cigarettes can support you through to a tobacco-free life.
