What is a vape kit?
Every vaping journey begins with finding that perfect vape kit. At The London Vape Company we stock a wide variety of vaping devices designed for beginners, intermediate users, advanced users, and pod kit vapers. Some kits look tall and slender like a pen, whilst others are a little bulkier to house more battery capacity to keep you going all day long. We dive into what exactly makes up a vape kit and why there is such a variety for every type of vaper.
How does it work?
E-Liquid (vape juice) is heated up to create a vapor that can be inhaled to resemble the sensation of smoking. Vape kits are made with three main components: the battery/mod/base, the tank/pod, and the coils/atomisers. The coil (sometimes referred to as an atomiser, core, or filter) is the heating element that creates the vapor production. Replacement coils come in different shapes, sizes and resistances – otherwise known as Ohms. Read more about coils and see our selection here! Tanks and pods are designed to house the coil and your chosen E-Liquid, they come in a variety of shapes and sizes (maximum 2ml as per UK guidelines). Vape kits generally use glass and other very durable heat resistant materials for the tanks and pods to help keep them leak-resistant. These tanks/pods then attach (or already come attached to) the base of the kit known as the mod or battery. The mod provides power which is used to generate heat inside the coil which in turn generates vapor production. Some mods have settings that can be customised to suit individual vapers needs such as the wattage and temperature. AIO (all-in-one) devices such as the Aspire Pockex Kit combine certain components together and are inseparable, whilst other kits such as the Geekvape M100 can be separated and combined with alternative vape tanks and mods for a fully customised experience.
What’s the difference between Mouth-to-Lung and Straight-to-Lung vaping?
When choosing which vape kit to purchase, you should consider carefully what sort of vaping experience you are looking for. If you are trying to replicate the sensation of smoking a cigarette, you should choose a kit that can perform at a lower wattage with a high resistance or Plus-Ohm, Mouth-to-Lung (MTL) vaping kits are the best option. MTL vaping coils produce less vapor, which allows for higher nicotine strengths to be used to satisfy cravings faster.
If its big clouds and bigger flavour you’re looking for, you should choose a kit that can perform at a higher wattage and with a lower resistance or Sub-Ohm coil. Sub Ohm coils produce more vapour and intense flavour. This vaping style is often referred to as Straight-to-Lung (STL) or Direct-to-Lung (DTL) vaping, in which you inhale clouds of vapour which are usually paired with a lower strength nicotine due to the density of the cloud production. STL/DTL is more similar to shisha, cigar, and pipe inhalation than MTL inhalation.
We recommend picking a kit that suits your inhale style, so if you smoke cigarettes in the traditional MTL style we suggest picking out a vape that closely mimics that style.
Starter Kit Recommendations:
We asked some of our members of staff what their first vaping experiences were like and what types of kits they would recommend to their past selves with the knowledge and expertise they have now.
“I would have recommended the Aspire Flexus Q to myself, if we’re talking about newer kits on the market. It has all the bells and whistles of an advanced MTL pod kit whilst keeping things simple!”
What are “heated tobacco” kits?
Heated Tobacco kits work a little differently from the standard vaping kits.
Whilst vapes use a coil to heat E-Liquid to produce a vapor, heated tobacco uses real tobacco and gently heats it up to create a vapor. By heating the tobacco instead of burning it, your risks are reduced considerably compared to traditional cigarettes.
Some people do not get along well with vaping, for example those with allergies to certain E-Liquid ingredients might have a much easier time quitting smoking with the assistance of a heated tobacco kit instead of a traditional vape.
